Het Nieuwe Instituut

Discover our exhibitions through a ‘detour’ with a member of our team of unravellers and experience experts. These detour guides will show you around from their perspective as a musician, dancer, architect, actor or artist.

A detour lasts an hour. Due to the coronavirus measures, there is currently a maximum of five participants per group. The cost (until at least until January 2021) is €50 per group (instead of €85 per 15 participants), excluding entrance to the museum (entrance tickets are available online).

You can book a detour by malling boekingen@hetnieuweinstituut.nl or by calling +31 (0)10 440 1200.

Schools

In addition to our standard detours, Het Nieuwe Instituut also offers detours for schools. Visit the Education website (in Dutch) for more information.

Sonneveld House

Located next door to Het Nieuwe Instituut, Sonneveld House is one of the best-preserved Functionalist houses in the world. The freestanding villa was designed in 1929 by architecture office Brinkman & Van der Vlugt for Albertus Sonneveld, a director of the Van Nelle Factory. The house is light and spacious, in keeping with the Modernist ideals of the time, with streamlined furniture and large windows offering views of the surrounding garden. During the detour, your detour guide will tell you about the house’s history, pointing out interesting details.

A detour of Sonneveld House lasts an hour. Due to the coronavirus measures, there is currently a maximum of five participants per group. The cost (until at least January 2021) is €50 per group, excluding entrance to the museum (entrance tickets are available online).

Sunday Strolls

Discover the exhibition(s) at Het Nieuwe Instituut by taking a casual stroll, every Sunday at 2pm. Every week, a different detour guide will tell you about the exhibition(s) from their own perspective as a creative. Aside from the entrance fee, the strolls are free.

Sunday Scrolls

While the institute was closed because of the coronavirus measures, the detour guides organised a virtual alternative: the weekly Sunday Scroll. These online tours were linked to The Hoodie exhibition or to a (design) theme reflecting the vision or the interests of the detour guide.
